From today the entry into Bulgaria is according to new rules. At the borders, they are already checking for the so-called European electronic certificate. Travelers who do not have one can also use the previous methods – a negative test from the last 72 hours or a document for suffering from COVID-19.
Through it, the examiners find out whether the passenger in question has a negative test, whether he has had the coronavirus in the last 6 months or whether he has been vaccinated. Until August 12, travelers will be able to enter our country without the certificate in question.
But only if they present the documents for vaccination or a negative test, with which he has traveled so far. If they do not present one, they will be quarantined.
The system for checking COVID certificates starts on July 1
And state health inspector Angel Kunchev told NOVA that countries with an increase in the number of people suffering from the so-called Indian strain could be included in the red list of banned countries. He did not rule out the possibility that Russia could be among them.
The delta variant is transmitted 60% easier than other strains, experts say, for example, 10 people, if one is sick, will infect another 6-7. Thus, the prognosis to have a fourth wave of coronavirus in our country is quite possible.
As for the electronic vaccination certificates – at Terminal 2 at Sofia Airport, the arrivals say that two RHI employees are checking for certificates and negative tests of the passengers. And some people who have obtained certificates abroad claim that there is a problem in reading QR-codes.
The spread of the Indian version of the coronavirus worries the Bulgarian health authorities, so doctors are monitoring the situation.
“If necessary, we will impose additional restrictive measures. These countries should fall into the red zone, from where we do not allow entry into Bulgaria. If necessary, yes, we will demand the inclusion of Russia “, said Assoc. Prof. Kunchev. Thus, countries with high morbidity will fall into the red zone.
To make it easier to travel between countries in Europe, the electronic vaccination certificate comes into force today.
“Everything is fine, my husband has a certificate, I have a test. They tried to open the QR-code for me, but I didn’t know if they entered the program or not. I saw that the woman tried twice and finally said: “Come on, go,” said Diana Koinova.
The capital’s RHI, which monitors the work of its employees at Sofia Airport, says that they currently have enough readers. But they also admit that in the first days, there may be some difficulties.
“Like anything new in operation, it is possible to have a period of adaptation and tolerance. At this stage, they are running in parallel in the old and new way,” said Dr. Irina Gaitanevska – Head of EWCB, RHI – Sofia.
It is in the old way – not with a digital certificate, but with other documents proving vaccination, negative test or passed COVID-19, chose to enter our country most travelers by land.
It was at our border checkpoints that the organization was more complex, the Minister of Health admits.
Meanwhile, vaccination levels in our country remain low.
“Last but not least, we are in Europe with 11% of the population immunized. “The goal that the health authorities” pursue “with immunization is not to be 100% not infected, but not to have a severe course of the disease, not to die, and in this regard the vaccines are doing great,” said Assoc. Prof. Kunchev.
The chief state health inspector also launched the idea of introducing paid treatment for those not vaccinated against COVID-19 if they become ill. According to Assoc. Prof. Kunchev, active work is being done to check how long the immunity is after vaccination and whether an additional booster dose should be given.
