Apparently the new option is welcome. In one week, nearly 500 people have already applied for a payment plan, says Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open VLD): “Obviously, having to pay a fine is never fun. But at a time when many families are having to contend with rising energy prices, it’s all the more unpleasant when a fine falls on the bus. Justice includes people with payment difficulties. You may already be getting a fines payment plan. Now an offender can also apply for a payment plan for traffic fines, which are usually smaller amounts.”
