From the Rome Internationals to the Olympics and Paralympics: the great summer of free-to-air sport on Rai – Sport

ROMA – Tennis internationals, European athletics championships, Giro d’Italia men and women, Tour de France, European football championships, Paris Olympics and Paralympics. And on Thursday Milan-Roma: the first of four Europa League matches (or five, in the case of an Italian team in the final) broadcast free-to-air. It will be a rich summer for sports lovers, who will be able to follow everything clearly on the Rai. A program schedule resulting from a great effort by the public service both in economic terms and in journalistic work.

Also, obviously, a source of pride. “The free-to-air sport offered by the public service today – explained the CEO of Rai, Robert Sergioon the occasion of the event All sports. Everywhere. Minute by minute which was held on Tuesday morning in the Sergio Zavoli room in Viale Mazzini – is the result of a great deal of work done over the years on the acquisition of sports rights. It’s finally back to free-to-air football, one of the things that is asked of us most by viewers and radio listeners. And we will be happy to talk about the golden moment that Italian tennis is experiencing thanks to Sinner, Berrettini, Sonego, Musetti and all the other Azzurri”.

The task of leading the team of RaiSport it is up to the director, Iacopo Volpi: “It is a great responsibility, but also a great fortune to fill this role at a time like this. We will broadcast sports for free from morning to night, with the treat of the return of Dribbling”. The events will also be available on the web, thanks to RaiPlay. “In recent years – specified the director of the online channel, Elena Capparelli – this asset has grown extraordinarily thanks to the teamwork and targeted industrial choices made by the company. We focused on use on the move, on devices and from smart TVs.”

Also satisfied with the events acquired was the general director of Viale Mazzini and interim director for sports rights, Giampaolo Rossi: “Sport is an element of national identity, it unifies the country and is a central element of the existence of Rai“: It is no coincidence that the director recalled an episode which is part of the history of TV: on 3 January 1954 the first program broadcast, at 3.45pm, was the sports afternoon: “So – continued Rossi – Rai was born with sports programming . There is a civil commitment to talk about sport, also because today it has been included in the Constitution as a driving element for the country’s growth”.

Also present in the room were the president of Rai, Marinella Soldithe advisors Simona Agnes e Alessandro Di Majoe Carlo Mornati, secretary general of CONI and head of the Italian delegation at the Paris Olympics. Also present were some of the technical commentators who will support the radio and commentators in football, cycling, tennis, the Olympics and Paralympics: Sebino Nela, Bruno Giordano, Marco Tardelli, Giada Borgato, Stefano Tilli, Stefano Pantano, Luca Sacchi (in video), Adriano Panatta (in video).
