The reason for the changes is the unilateral termination of the contract with BNR by “Muzikautor” and the prohibition by the association to play music whose rights are held by it.
Relations between the state media and the music monopolist ended after the radio station failed to meet its demands for a threefold increase in remuneration. According to Velev, the management of the radio offered a 20 percent increase, but it was not accepted by “Muzikautor”.
As a result, from 2017, only performances whose rights have been extinguished by statute of limitations will be heard in the BNR programs – classical music, jazz and authentic folklore.
