From the Cannes Film Festival, films go to Czech cinemas

The program offered films by its regulars and newcomers, among the guests were not only French stars such as Marion Cotillard, Isabelle Huppert or Catherine Deneuve. Despite the ever-present cover, foreign guests and some even from overseas, such as Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Sean Penn and the creators of the Japanese film Drive my Car, ventured to the Riviera.

It is said that few have such a poppy life as a film festival. Practice cables and billboards are cleaned a few hours before the awards ceremony, most guests leave the hotels, and in the morning after the closing ceremony, few would know that Berlin, Venice, Karlovy Vary or Cannes still lived in cinema yesterday.

But what remains is the films that are being distributed from festivals to try to find their place among the “big brothers”, who attract to the eye the brightest, albeit often fleeting stars, giant budgets and ever-improving tricks.

Several films from Cannes will also arrive in Czech cinemas this year, which deserve the attention of viewers. There will undoubtedly be more of them, whether at the Karlovy Vary festival or in cinemas, than the next tasting, but which others will always be a matter of trade.

Annette, Adam a Marion

The opening film Cannes, a novelty by French director Leos Carax Annette with Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver in the lead roles, is already running in cinemas.

Of course, Driver is known to Star Wars fans, but he doesn’t shy away from less commercially ambitious projects either. In Annette, a stand-up comedian plays, who, paradoxically, is shared by their common child with the love of his life. And Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard, who has an Oscar for her role as Edith Piaf in the film of the same name, plays a soprano, whom her sweetheart is jealous of, because her art is appreciated more than his.

It was Cotillard’s sixth film in the Cannes competition, and preparing for it was not easy for the actress.

“It’s a musical, which always requires a lot of preparation, and in this case it was also opera singing. I accepted the role in May and we filmed in September, so I didn’t have much time to become an opera singer, “said Cotillard in Cannes, who finally managed her role perfectly as always.

Juveniles in their thirties

Another of the films that Czech viewers can look forward to is Dan Joachim Trier’s novel The Worst Person in the World. It is the story of Julie, in her thirties, who does not know what she wants, but she certainly knows that she does not want what she has, including her current partner.

“Although we haven’t been so terribly old for years, it’s a completely different generation than mine,” said Trier, 47, who tries to reveal the reasons why today’s thirties are underage people who still avoid serious relationships and are afraid. responsibility towards the family.

“Even women of that age often don’t hear the biological clock ticking today, they still don’t want children, but after a few more years they visit assisted reproduction surgeries, because natural pregnancy is already a problem,” Trier said.

Jako Celine Dion

The life of singer Céline Dionová, who forever entered the history of the songs My Heart Will Go On in the film Titanic, inspired director Valéria Lemercierová to make the film Aline, which she will present in Czech cinemas Bioscop on November 11 under the title Voice of Love.

It takes place in the 1960s in Quebec, Canada. Sylvette and Anglomard welcome their fourteenth child, Aline, to the world. For this humble family, music is paramount. When, after years, producer Guy Claude discovers Alina’s golden voice, his only idea is to make her the best singer in the world. And for Aline, an extraordinary life begins.

“I’m fascinated by Celina’s sincerity. It’s like an open book, he treats the audience like a family, “said the director about the prototype of her heroine. “When I saw her perform, I understood the enthusiasm of her fans and why they are so nice. I felt at home among them. “
