From the Amazon Jungle to the Concrete Jungle: Adriana Aristizábal’s Inspiring Career Reinvention

From the Amazon jungle to the most famous concrete jungle, Adriana Aristizábal’s career is an example of reinvention and improvement.

“My life has been a life marked by the closing of cycles and the beginning of cycles, the closing of careers and the beginning of a career. I am a business administrator, graduated from the National University of Colombia,” says Adriana Aristizábal, businesswoman and consultant for NYC&CO.

“I am also a journalist. Yes, I was a reporter, a war correspondent in Colombia for seven years. I worked for CNI, for the RCN channel and as a result of that job I had to leave,” explains Adriana Aristizábal, businesswoman and consultant for NYC&CO.

Her career as an informant changed direction when her name appeared on a list of targets to be killed by the FARC, a guerrilla group designated as terrorist by the United States until 2021.

Her next step was to take shelter in New York, where her commitment to highlighting social and political issues took her to the Colombian consulate.

“I arrived in this country without speaking English, with an administrative position. So, that was where I got my act together and did a master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Relations and I started to learn English because I knew that learning the language that was going to open the doors for me, not only to the city of New York, but to the world,” says Aristizábal.

That decision led her to open the public relations firm iVoice Communications in 2014, to serve as a consultant for the Big Apple agency for tourism promotion and to write two books narrating her experiences, professional metamorphosis and her concept of the so-called “Dream.” or American†.

“The dream must be converted into actions. It is not enough to dream. We have to act, but we also have to act hand in hand with people. We have to surround ourselves with circles of support,” says the businesswoman.

Support like the one provided today through professional organizations that promote the development of our community.

“To the young people who are, let’s say, in this country looking for opportunities. There are many opportunities in the United States to grow in a thousand ways, to educate themselves, to seek employment. There are organizations, there are, we have a community that is a community of 62 millions of people, which is a community where we can help each other to achieve our goals,” he adds.

Your source of inspiration, the city that never sleeps.

“Iconic places, reinventing themselves and attracting tourism, are work that is truly uplifting for me as a Latina,” concludes Adriana Aristizábal.

In addition to all his projects, Aristizábal is working on the pre-production of an action film of his own.
