It still felt like winter in the country this week, with a layer of snow or sleet in several places, but in two days it will suddenly look very different. The weather is about to change a lot. A temperature of 17 degrees is possible in the south on Sunday.
That is different from what we saw a few days ago. Tuesday fell the first snow this autumn in the north of the country and in the morning there was another white cover in different parts of the country. That caused some inconvenience on the road, for both of them morning and evening rush hours. It may be slippery on the road tonight and tonight as well.
Storm Bert
Temperatures around freezing will disappear over the next two days. Mercury rose dramatically during that time. This is due to Bert, a storm hanging over Great Britain and Ireland, said meteorologist Peter Kuipers Munneke. “There will be a storm this weekend and that storm will bring warm air from southern Europe into our area.”
It could reach 17 degrees in the south on Sunday, around 15 degrees in the center of the country and 13 degrees in the north-east. “That’s special anyway,” said Kuipers Munneke. “If it gets warmer than 15 degrees in De Bilt, that will be only the fifth time since 1901, when measurements began.
Strong wind
It’s an important assumption to make, because anyone who thinks a beautiful spring-like day is planned, according to the weatherman, will be disappointed. “It gets so warm because of the strong wind. On the coast and on the beach there is a wind force 6 or 7. You notice that there is wind everywhere, even inland. And it will be very cloudy. So it is warm, but not windless.”
We have to be patient for that weather for a few days, because according to Kuipers Munneke, peace will return after that. “On Monday and Tuesday it will still be a bit changeable with showers. It is likely to be a little calmer again from Wednesday with degrees 7 or 8. It will then be dry with a little more chance of sunshine.”

This article discusses the sudden change in Dutch weather from wintery conditions to unseasonably warm temperatures. Here are some open-ended questions that encourage discussion and explore different viewpoints:
**Thematic Section 1: The Unexpected Weather Shift**
* **How might this sudden change in temperature impact people’s daily lives in the Netherlands?** (Think about things like transportation, outdoor activities, and clothing choices.)
* **We often hear about climate change impacting weather patterns globally. Do you think this particular temperature shift is a sign of larger climate trends? Why or why not?**
**Thematic Section 2: Contrast between Forecast and Experience**
* **The article mentions that though temperatures will rise, it won’t be a beautiful spring-like day. Why do you think the weatherman emphasizes this point?** (Encourage exploration of expectations versus reality, and the role of wind in our perception of weather.)
**Thematic Section 3: Looking Ahead:**
* **The article mentions periods of rain and more moderate temperatures after the warm spell. How might these less extreme conditions aid or hinder a smooth transition back to typical autumn weather?**
**General Questions:**
* **Do you think meteorological forecasts are accurate enough to help us plan our lives, especially for short-term changes like this event?**
