From Seville to Paris to coach the British Wheelchair Tennis team at the Paralympic Games

Amidst the adrenaline of the Paralympic Games, Seville-born coach Juan Beaus is accompanying British tennis player Gordon Reid and the British wheelchair tennis team.

The story of Juan and Gordon goes back a decade, to 2012, when Beaus, after an initial stint at the Andalusian Tennis Federation, met the young British tennis player at university.

What began as simple flirtations between the two, has been transformed over the years, into
an essential collaboration. Although it was in 2021 when fate decided to unite them more closely. Juan’s friend, Bruno Argudo, from the Scottish Federation, could not accompany Reid to the Australian Open and that is how Juan assumed the role of Gordon’s coach.

The relationship between the two has been growing and Juan travels with Gordon between 3 and 4 weeks a year accompanying him to the most important tournaments.

Gordon Reid is a titan of wheelchair tennis, currently ranked No. 5 in the world singles and No. 2 in the world doubles.

The Paralympic Games represent a stage for glory but also for a lot of work. Juan’s career began at the Andalusian Tennis Federation, where he worked in two different stages, interrupted by a break to carry out studies that would allow him to expand his knowledge at the University.

After his years at the Federation, Juan continued learning at the 4Slam Tennis Academy, founded by former professional tennis player Fernando Vicente. From there he moved on to the SotoTennis Academy in Sotogrande, to continue perfecting his English and his knowledge.

After this period, Juan trained the tennis player from Cadiz, Riki Ojeda, for several months. However, one of his goals was to have his own academy, a place where he could share everything he had learned over the years.

This is how Sevilla Tenis Real was born, its high-performance academy located in the Real Club Sevilla
Golf. Gordon Reid has visited Seville on some occasions but it is Juan who travels with the British player.

Today, in Paris 2024, amidst the hustle and bustle and excitement of the Games, Juan Beaus is living the dream that began many years ago in Seville. Meanwhile, Gordon Reid continues to advance through the rounds at the Paralympic Games, where Juan, from the sidelines, knows that he is taking advantage of every train that life has put in his path.

From Seville to Paris, via Australia, Sotogrande and many other places, she has shown that tennis is much more than a sport: it is a path full of challenges and rewards, where true success is not measured only in victories, but in the impact you leave on those around you.
