From September 25 it will no longer be prohibited, but it will be strictly discouraged to travel to red zones. Minister of Foreign Affairs Philippe Goffin announced this on Monday evening. With this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is returning to the formulation of travel advice as it existed before the corona crisis.

“This government decision is part of our will to achieve greater European coordination,” Goffin said Monday evening. Belgium was the only European country to ban travel to red zones, rather than discourage them.
The European Commission recently proposed to introduce a common color code for the entire European Union. That proposal has been “welcomed by the member states,” said Goffin, who had a meeting with his European counterparts on Monday.
According to the minister, there is still a lot of work to be done at European level. But the adaptation of the Belgian travel advice is already “an important step with a view to real coordination”, says Goffin.
