Ravensburg – At the start of the digital day on Friday, June 24th, there was a one-time action at the senior citizens’ meeting place in Hirschgraben at the beginning of the week. Under the motto “Don’t be afraid of technology”, 9th grade students and senior citizens interested in digital met to try out virtual reality glasses. The elderly could embark on digital journeys around the world in seconds.
The young people, who are volunteering with the company RaumZeit, introduced the senior citizens to the digital experiment and had them “teleported” to their desired place in the world. After brief technical preparations and instructions, the participants set off on a journey to New York, to the fjords of Norway or to their home region in Berlin-Kreuzberg or other places.
For the seniors, the trip with the VR glasses proved to be an exciting way to compare whether everything still looks the same as it did back then.
Thanks to the openness of both generations, everyone was able to enjoy a digital excursion despite minor initial difficulties. “A great campaign to stimulate contact across generations and it’s nice to see how old and young can learn from each other,” says Sabine Zinke, social worker at the Ravensburg Seniors’ Club.
