From princess to volunteer: Japanese ex-princess Mako at work in New York museum “The Met”

The former princess graduated from International Christian University in Tokyo with a degree in art and cultural heritage. She has also traveled to the UK twice to study. After studying art history at the University of Edinburgh in 2012, Mako obtained her master’s degree in art museum and gallery studies from the University of Leicester in 2016.

While still a royal, Mako worked as a researcher at the esteemed University Museum of the University of Tokyo, juggling her research with royal duties.
