From O’Higgins’ representatives to the NNA National Advisory Council – 2024-09-05 10:35:16

Following the Regional Meeting of Communal Advisory Councils for Children and Adolescents, promoted by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, representatives of the O’Higgins region were elected for the period 2024-2025, who will participate in the National Advisory Council, within the framework of the Law on Guarantees and Comprehensive Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents.

The representatives for O’Higgins who will be present at the National Advisory Council were: Esperanza Hernández, from Mostazal and Tomás Cubillos from La Estrella, who were elected after a close vote.
The Regional Secretary of Social Development and Family, Nayadeth Ahumada, led the meeting and was attended by the Regional Secretary of Sports, Macarena Chandía; the regional director of Sename, Carolina Villarroel; the regional director of Senda, Carlos Leyton; the regional director of IND, Juan Bustamante, among other personalities.

Children and adolescents from 30 communities in the O’Higgins region enjoyed various participatory dynamics and recreational activities, which allowed them to express ideas to enrich the debate and reach agreements; in addition to community proposals, which they presented to all those present.

The election of representatives to the National Advisory Council was carried out through electronic voting, as provided for in Article 76 of Law 21,430, the objective of which is to make effective the participation of children and adolescents in relation to policies, projects and programs that may affect them in the areas established by law.

“It is a historic day for us as a government and Ministry of Social Development and Family, as we work with the different representatives of 30 communes, on the various needs that our region has, but also building the dreams that children and adolescents have,” said Seremi Nayadeth Ahumada.

Ahumada stressed that they have representatives from the provinces of Cachapoal and Cardenal Caro, which allows them to bring the demands of this region to the central level.

“We are giving importance and value to what the Law of Guarantees invites us to do; to recognize the rights of children and adolescents, and to put their demands and needs at the center, recognizing them as citizens of today and not tomorrow,” he stressed.

The representatives elected by O’Higgins said they were happy to have been selected, where Esperanza Hernández, from Mostazal said that the result has been impressive and that she hopes to give her best at this time. For his part, Tomás Cubillos, from La Estrella, thought it was extremely important that these opportunities be given to be able to show their problems to adults and thus feel more involved within the community.

It should be noted that Law No. 21,430 on Guarantees and Comprehensive Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents creates the Comprehensive Protection System “Chile Crece Más”, which mandates the creation of Advisory Councils for Children and Adolescents in all the country’s municipalities, through the Local Children’s Offices (OLN). These Councils in turn have a regional body with representatives from all the municipalities to elect 2 representatives who make up a National Advisory Council.
