The case of Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred has formed a rich material in the press and popular circles during the past days, especially after the Criminal Court in Paris ruled, on Friday, a 6-year prison sentence, after convicting him of sexually assaulting a young French woman in 2016.
Lamjarred’s name has been linked over the years to several rape cases, as a result of which the Moroccan artist was exposed to a lot of confusion and the public was divided between his supporter and his denunciation of all the cases linked to his name.
With reference to the history of the charges against him:
- Lamjarred was first arrested on suspicion of assaulting and raping a woman in New York in 2010.
- Lamjarred fled the United States on bail and has not returned since.
- Six years later, he was accused of assaulting and raping a young French woman in a Paris hotel.
- He was released on bail in 2017, with an electronic bracelet to monitor his movements.
- In the same year, he was accused of raping a young French-Moroccan woman, who confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted and beaten by the singer in White House 2015.
- He was imprisoned in 2018 for a short period after he was accused of raping another young woman in the French city of Saint-Tropez.
- On Monday, the trial of the Moroccan singer began in Paris, on charges of raping a French woman in Paris in 2016.
- On Friday, the Paris Criminal Court sentenced the Moroccan singer to 6 years in prison.
- On Thursday, the French Public Prosecutor requested a 7-year prison sentence, in addition to a 5-year ban on entering France after serving his sentence.
- The Moroccan singer denied, on Wednesday and Friday, before the court in Paris, that he had raped the young French woman, Laura B. or had a sexual relationship with her.
- A journalist on Radio France Internationale “RFA” said that the court and the jury were convinced of the charges against Saad Lamjarred.
- She added that the court convicted Lamjarred to 6 years in prison, noting that he has 10 days to appeal the verdict.
