From mass to customization: these groups lag behind vaccination

What are the consequences if 1.8 million people do not get vaccinated?

It is estimated that 75 percent of all people over 18 in the Netherlands had received a full vaccination last Sunday and 85 percent had received a first vaccination. Vaccination readiness is currently 91.4 percent.

If it stays that way, the 1.8 million people who have not been vaccinated could eventually lead to 16,000 to 22,000 hospitalizations and 2,200 to 3,400 IC admissions, according to the most recent letter to parliament from the outgoing Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge.

A realistic calculation, says immunologist Marjolein van Egmond. “Due to the more contagious delta variant, you can now say that if you are not vaccinated, you will become infected at some point. But whether that will be somewhere in the coming weeks or in two years is more difficult to estimate.”
