/ world today news/ A pimple-faced “political scientist” agitates me that we didn’t have movies – in my time, he says bruised. So – under socialism! And there were no series, film production was on a dead end! If it was next to me, I would stain it! I was content to switch to another channel!
From Major Deyanov / “At Every Kilometer”/ to Captain Petko Voivoda in the series of the same name – this is the briefest way to summarize the successes of the Bulgarian series during the socialist countdown. There are still many living Bulgarians who remember the triumphant success of the TV series “Every Kilometer” /1969-1972/. The 26 series held the breath of young and old, and the main characters Major Deyanov / Stefan Danailov/, Velinsky /Georgi Cherkelov/ and Mitko Bombata /Grigor Vachkov/ became people’s favorites for decades. The screenwriters were Pavel Vezhinov, Svoboda Bachvarova, Evgeni Konstantinov, Kostadin Kyulyumov and the “dissident” Georgi Markov.
Vasil Mihailov from “Captain Petko Voivoda” /1981 year/ was given no less love by the audience. This series was created under the masterful hand of Nikolay Haitov. He is also the author of the 12-episode in our earliest series – “Kalinkovi Family” /1966/ The roles were entrusted to the then still young actors Ivan Kondov, Georgi Cherkelov, Maria Rusalieva, Tatyana Lolova and Ginka Stancheva.
A truly historical series was achieved with “Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings” /1976/ In it, the names of such actors as Radko Dishliev, Antoniy Genov, Stoyan Stoev, Iliya Dobrev, Georgi Mamalev, Iliya Karaivanov shone… They built complex and rich images from the heroic era of the April Uprising.
Another historical saga – “Measure according to mera”/1981/, for the first time recreated the epic struggle of the Macedonian Bulgarians against the Turks through the original point of view of an ordinary shepherd who became the brother of fearless voivodes – an incredible role by Rusi Chanev.
We also have a children’s series – “War of the Hedgehogs” /1979/. Although in only five episodes, he managed to synthesize the best of our children’s cinema. It is the work of the director Ivanka Hrabcheva and the screenwriting tandem of the Mormarevi brothers.
Despite the reprimands, sometimes with reason – sometimes without, directed at socialism, the state then powerfully supported our film industry. About two hundred films were made every year. There is no way that the quantitative accumulations will not pass into qualitative ones. If a dozen of them were valuable, it’s still worth the big expense.
