From Tragedy to Triumph: How Lathifah Amaturrahman Turned a Personal Disaster into a Thriving Business
Jakarta – Disasters often leave scars, but for Lathifah Amaturrahman,a devastating moment became the catalyst for her entrepreneurial journey. Known affectionately as Thiva, this Malang native is the founder adn owner of Bayiku.id, a local baby brand that has revolutionized baby care in Indonesia.
Thiva’s story began with a heart-stopping incident at a shopping center. While carrying her infant in a traditional manner, her baby slipped and fell to the floor. “at that time, I was carrying my baby the way peopel did in the past,” she recounted in an interview with detikcom. This traumatic event sparked her quest for a safer, more effective way to carry her child.
Her search led her to discover baby slings, a product that would later become the cornerstone of her business. Thiva didn’t stop at just using the sling; she took it a step further by attending carrying classes abroad and designing her own version. “I made it for myself, but my friends saw it and wanted one too,” she shared.
What started as a personal project quickly evolved into a business opportunity.Thiva realized that many mothers in Indonesia were unaware of the importance of proper baby-carrying techniques. Her innovative M-Shape and Ergonomic slings, designed to mimic a natural hug, filled this gap. “It’s like the baby is being hugged all the time, sticking close to you,” she explained.
In mid-2017, Thiva took a leap of faith and introduced her products to a local store in Malang. Despite initial doubts, her slings sold out within three days. “The store owner was skeptical at first, but the response was overwhelming,” she said.
Today, Bayiku.id stands as a testament to Thiva’s resilience and ingenuity. Her journey from a personal tragedy to a thriving business is an inspiring example of how challenges can be transformed into opportunities.
