From July, new subsidies for heating and ventilation will apply

Since the beginning of the year, anyone who wants to heat in an environmentally friendly manner and ventilate in an energy-saving manner has been able to benefit from the federal subsidy for efficient (BEG). In the case of new buildings and complete renovations, the old funding offers from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) were still valid until the end of June. But in the second half of the year, KfW also switched its offers to BEG.

When the new federal funding came into force, it was already clear that the BEG should be implemented in stages. At the same time as the introduction, the Federal Office for Export Control (BAFA) started the BEG individual measures in January 2021: It supports individual renovations in existing buildings that contribute to increased energy efficiency, including in the areas of heat generation and heating technology. “The BEG primarily promotes the use of renewable energies. Anyone who would like to receive a grant for individual measures in an existing building can contact BAFA. When it comes to loans, KfW is the right contact for both existing and new buildings. The promotional offers that came into effect in July help bring your home up to a better energy level, ”explains Kerstin Vogt, Managing Director of the Forum for Energy Efficiency in Building Technology (VdZ).

The KfW promotional offers are low-interest loans and attractive grants for energy-efficient renovation measures. In the case of individual measures, the repayment subsidy of the KfW loan corresponds in the amount to the directly paid subsidy, which can be accessed via BAFA. This means that anyone who installs a heat pump, biomass system, hybrid heating or solar thermal system receives up to 55 percent of the eligible costs back. 20 percent each is possible for measures to optimize heating, ventilation technology and the installation of digital systems for energy optimization (“Efficiency Smart Home”). Together with the funding offers, a grant of 50 percent for specialist planning and construction supervision can also be applied for.

KfW has defined new efficiency house classes for complete renovations and new buildings. The subsidies are particularly high if more than half of the heat is obtained from renewable energies. In the new building there is also the option of receiving a federally recognized sustainability certification, which goes hand in hand with a further increase in funding. “The new conditions of the BEG – implemented by BAFA and now also KfW – offer many starting points for tackling the energy transition in your own home,” concludes Kerstin Vogt.
