From headbutts and middle fingers to calling your son live: the most awkward situations on live TV

This week, TV24 journalist Jānis Labucs caused a wide stir, who rudely cursed Defense Minister Andris Sprudus live. It happened without the presenter knowing that the microphone was on. However, there is no lack of such curious situations.

It has already been reported that on March 26, after the end of the program “Actual about the war in Ukraine”, when the audience could already see the credits, what was discussed in the studio could still be heard on the live broadcast.

Labucs, thinking the microphone was off, announced that

“The trigger [aizsardzības ministrs] has messed up in the head after being elected to office”.

About an hour and a half after the incident, Labucs published an apology: “I have always highly valued the work of the Latvian Defense Ministry. Since the beginning of the war, I have fought for Latvia’s interests and done everything possible to make Latvia stronger and safer. I apologize for the unprofessionalism I committed tonight.”

At the end of last year, even such an experienced BBC moderator as Maryam Moshiri found herself in an unpleasant situation:

she showed the audience her middle finger live.

Moshiri showed her middle finger on live TV shortly before a story about ex-prime minister Boris Johnson, but a hundredth of a second later she continued her work as if nothing had happened.
