Dresden – Good news for the little ones: daycare centers and primary schools are allowed on Monday in Saxony to open again. Simplifications are also being introduced elsewhere.

“From Monday, February 15, daycare centers and elementary schools may open again on a large scale,” announced Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (45, CDU) on Tuesday in Dresden. “The background is the positive development in the corona values.”
However, there is still no unrestricted regular operation. Rather, fixed groups and fixed classes would have to come together from Monday.
Incidentally, there is no compulsory attendance at primary schools, but school attendance is compulsory. Parents who do not want to send their primary school children to school do not have to do so. But the students would have to take part in homeschooling.
Teachers and educators should be able to take tests BEFORE February 15th. School Minister Piwarz added. Students don’t have to be tested!
The final classes remain in classroom instruction. From when the intermediate classes from class 5 onwards will be allowed to go back to schools will be decided on March 1 or 8, according to Piwarz.
However: If the corona numbers go up again, there could be closings of daycare centers and primary schools again locally, regionally or across Saxony. On Tuesday, the incidence value was below the “magic” limit of 100 at around 91.

Introduction of the “Click & Collect” pick-up service
Transport Minister Martin Dulig (46, SPD) asked the transport companies in the Free State to exchange the holiday schedule for a normal schedule for the times of day when school starts and school closes. Especially when rush hour traffic and school traffic intersect. The Free State will share in the expenses.
In addition, Dulig informed about the introduction of the pick-up service “Click & Collect” from Monday. This allows customers to order goods from their retailers by phone in order to collect them later on site.
The minister asked for your understanding that Saxony is only now introducing the system.
Background: Almost all other federal states already allow “Click & Collect”. But Saxony recently topped the nationwide corona list.
Dulig also asked for contactless payment to be made possible.

Update, February 9, 4:45 p.m.: League of Welfare Associations welcomes the opening of the daycare centers
“The same children always stay together, they are looked after by the same staff and do not come into contact with people from other groups in the same facility,” said league boss Michael Richter.
This makes it possible not to have to close the entire facility in the event of an infection. However, this also means that specialists within the facility cannot simply change if staff are absent.
