It did not occur to Musa Mubarak that his visit to Dubai Airport would shape his career path after he saw the Emirates air services crew, so he decided at that time to work as an air hostess despite studying media. Despite his long career as a flight attendant at Emirates Airlines, Musa Mubarak, whom Al Bayan met upon his return from a trip coming from Bangkok, still possesses the passion for beginnings, a passion that made him cling to his profession despite the opportunities available to him to move to ground work in Training new cabin crew.
Beginnings
Regarding his beginning with Emirates Airlines, Musa Mubarak said: I finished my studies with a major in media at the Emirates University in Al Ain, and I always dreamed of working in the aviation field. One day, while I was waiting at the Dubai International Airport terminal to meet a relative on an Emirates flight (Mumbai-Dubai), I met two of my friends dressed as Emirates crew. I admired their elegance, personality and self-confidence. A few days later, I applied to work at Emirates Airlines, and joined the crew on March 14, 1987. It was the first step in my career that has spanned 36 years and continues, during which I have traveled the world on more than 3,500 flights.
Mubarak added: When I joined, the Emirates crew team consisted of about 500 flight attendants, and we were serving only 5 destinations: Mumbai, Delhi, Karachi, Amman, and Cairo, with four aircraft: an Airbus A300 from Pakistan International Airlines, a Boeing 727, and two A310s. When we took delivery of our first A310, we were thrilled, as these wide-body aircraft enabled Emirates to operate to destinations such as London Gatwick, Istanbul and Frankfurt. After that, the Boeing 777 aircraft continued to enter the fleet in 1996, then the Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft, and finally in 2008 the giant A380 aircraft, which were a source of pride and inspiration for us.
He added: I was the fifth Emirati air hostess on Emirates Airlines, and the number quickly rose to 65 Emirati hosts and hostesses, and we, the cabin crew, were keen on making the carrier a success, which was still nascent amidst strong competition from well-established companies in the market, and we were able to stand out from others during the period. short period of time.
He said: In the beginning, our rest periods in foreign destinations sometimes extended to a few days, and we worked with the same colleagues constantly, which created friendships and a wonderful family atmosphere among the crew. Now, we’re over 20,000, and we work with different people every time, which is great too; Because we get to know a larger number of people, especially during downtime, which no longer exceeds 24 hours with the increase in the number of Emirates flights.
He added: The advanced technology that Emirates Airlines constantly adopts has contributed to reducing our burdens and helping us perform our work better. Now we have tablets and laptops in our hands, and we no longer have paperwork, whereas in the beginning we used to fax our reports to headquarters during downtime; Which required more effort.
training
Regarding cabin crew training, he explained that the work of cabin crew has witnessed great development. Training operations were initially limited to theoretical lectures in the old Dnata building, and some practical experiments on one of the planes parked at the airport, which was used to practice evacuating the plane. As for the training, On emergency water landings, it was performed in the Al-Nasr Club swimming pool. Training has developed into professional curricula through simulators, modern equipment and specialized expertise at the Emirates Aviation College, which has now qualified the best cabin crew in the world with the testimony of many industry specialists.
Musa Mubarak rose from a junior economy class attendant to serving in business class, then first class in 1993, and then became a Purser cabin crew supervisor in 2008. He said: I had opportunities to travel and explore all 150 destinations on the Emirates network. With the exception of a number of cities that do not exceed the fingers of one hand. At the top of my favorite destinations, which I loved very much, are Chicago, Malta, and San Francisco, in addition to many of our destinations in the Far East, such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Indian cities, such as Kolkata and Chennai.
He added: I traveled on inaugural flights, witnessed aviation, tourism and employment exhibitions, and other events across the Emirates network, and met many famous Arab and foreign artists, football stars, diplomats, and Emirati, Arab and foreign officials.
