Inaugurated on May 12, the Vallée de la Gastronomie aims to promote the chefs and artisans of the Saône and Rhône valleys, all the way to the Mediterranean. More than 620 kilometers of French passion.
Eating is serious business in France. When he arrived in Paris in 1977, the Romanian writer Emil Cioran recounts having discovered that the meal was “ a ritual, an act of civilization, almost a philosophical stand »(Interviews, Gallimard, 1995). The need to eat, our country has transformed it into an art of eating well and drinking well, registered in 2010 in the Unesco’s intangible heritage of humanity. If this gastronomic passion already contributes greatly to the reputation of France in the world, Franck Vidal, director of the Cité du chocolat in the Drôme, wanted to focus on the local by imagining a gourmet route, La Vallée de la Gastronomy.
« Unlike Lyon or Burgundy, certain territories, such as Auvergne, were not recognized and identified as lands of taste. Starting from a desire for solidarity between artisans (restaurateurs, innkeepers, producers, farmers …) to promote their know-how, we imagined a real itinerary from Dijon to Marseille », Rejoices Fatima Faska, project manager of La Vallée de la Gastronomie. A successful bet, this joint initiative of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions (with the participation of the Gard department) has already brought together nearly 330 gourmet offers and around thirty ‘remarkable experiences, within a maximum of 45 minutes from an exit of the A6 or A7 motorway. Previously validated by a committee of gastronomy and tourism professionals drawn by lot, this selection claims its impartiality.
