Last year, Karina Seiner was last among all participants in the Styrian Squash Championships, but this year she was at the top of the winners’ podium. “That’s quite a big step,” the 17-year-old looks back proudly. Seiner, who is attending the BORG Monsberger high school class with a focus on academy sports, was also crowned Austrian U19 champion and was able to impress with two second places at the Hungarian and Slovenian Junior Open.

“The cool thing about squash is that you are on the same side as your opponent, which makes it more exciting than other racket sports like tennis, you have to interact with your opponent a lot more,” says the daughter of the Styrian association president Birgit Seiner, explaining her fascination with the sport. There are more tournaments abroad in the autumn, and after graduating from high school, Seiner is aiming to study sports science. In terms of sport, the USC2000 athlete wants to make the jump to the tournaments of the PSA, the Professional Squash Association, after the junior level.
