FC St. Pauli will be the very first guest in the new Freiburg Europa-Park Stadium on Thursday. In the old Dreisam Stadium, however, the Kiez kickers rarely stopped by. The two clubs only crossed blades 13 times in Freiburg.
FC St. Pauli achieved three wins in four draws and six defeats. But the successes were all special. It worked right the first time, when Freiburg led 1-0 after a break in the second division game on April 20, 1985. Sonny Wenzel and Hansi Bargfrede scored a 2-1 win for Braun-Weiß in front of 2500 spectators. For the newcomer it was only one of two away wins in the season, St. Pauli was relegated a few weeks later.

Ten years later, the Kiezklub traveled to the Friday evening game in the Breisgau as the Bundesliga leaders after a 4-2 opening win against Munich 1860. Thomas Sobotzik and Jens Scharping scored a 2-0 win on August 18, 1995. At the end of the season there was the so far last first division relegation.
Dream start in the Bundesliga – but despite the threesome in Freiburg, St. Pauli was relegated again
And after their last promotion to the Bundesliga, St. Pauli had a dream start on August 21, 2010, when Freiburg took the lead, but Fabian Boll, Richard Sukuta-Paso and Fin Bartels made it 3-1 with their late goals. Although there were further away wins afterwards, including in the Volksparkstadion, Boll and Co. had to leave the Bundesliga after a year.
