From August, trains will again be running over the Thur Bridge near Ossingen – TOP ONLINE

The SBB announced on Tuesday that additional, cross-shaped steel connections would be installed between the rails from May. These would absorb the lateral forces of the moving train and thus stabilize the bridge. The costs for the work amount to around 1.5 million francs. The concrete slabs of the hiking trail over the bridge will also be replaced.

In the longer term, however, further work on the 145-year-old bridge will be necessary. A project for the permanent repair of the bridge is therefore to be developed over the next few years.

Until the resumption of rail operations, replacement buses would continue to run between Thalheim-Altikon and Stein am Rhein, the SBB said. The route is usually used by the Thurbo line S29 (Winterthur-Stein am Rhein).

After the construction work is finished, trains can drive on the bridge again at normal speed. The SBB closed the bridge on January 22nd with immediate effect because the condition of the corrosion areas had deteriorated. This also had political consequences.
