From Antarctica to Vietnam, this photographer offers you a world tour … without leaving your home

Launched on November 2, 2020, the first day of the reconfinement, the initiative of this Brussels photographer quickly gathered. Every day, nearly 200 people comment and share his work, shared on on the facebook page .

A lawyer for over 30 years, Benoît Feron has gradually let himself be won over by a devouring passion for photography. In 2010, the photographer produced a book, “Visage d’avocats”, thus combining his two professions. This time, it is in a completely different register that it plunges.

The photographer explains that he regularly posted on his Facebook page during the first confinement. ” Often, around 6-7pm, I took my bike, I went up the Brussels canal to Tour & Taxis where I surveyed the city with my camera, to take photos highlighting the color and the light to fight the depression ambient, he explains to us. I started posting this on Facebook to bring color and dream to people and help them fight the disaster. ”

After receiving a message of thanks and during the announcement of the second confinement, Benoît Feron’s project is taking shape. He decides: ” I told myself that I was going to send dreams to people and make them travel the world as long as these measures restricting our freedoms applied. “, remembers the photographer. Neither one nor two, the project is set up: it is thanks to the thousands of pictures collected during 15 years of travel and photography that Benoît Feron decides to put balm in the hearts of people.

Images … and stories

In his publication shared on November 2, the first of the series, the photographer explains his approach: ” I decided to try to post one photo a day to feed your daily life, with color, dreams, sometimes the unexpected, by drawing from my hard drives and those thousands of photos taken all over the place during that time when we could travel … To take you around our land “.

After nearly 100 days, it is a meeting awaited by many. ” To date, I have posted images taken in 33 different countries, on many different themes, ranging from a trip to the Communist USSR to a scarification session in a village in the middle of Papua, passing through the Antarctic icebergs “, he explains.

But the photographer warns: ” I must admit that this situation must not go on forever because my reserves are not infinite and some days, when I get up, I sometimes wonder what I am going to publish…. But I still have some reservations luckily “.

Under the publications, Internet users are seduced. Every day, nearly 200 people comment on the photos and stories shared by Benoît Feron. As for the possibility of making a book, the photographer confides in dreaming: ” I’m thinking about it … But of course I really want to. There is something to say and to show, you just have to find the editor and the formula “.
