From Africa to Brazil: The School Children’s Choir Takes the Public on a Journey

Friday, March 17, the director of the elementary school André-Clavel, Agnès Beaunieux, the teachers and the 155 students of the school welcomed the families for a musical moment. For the past few months, Mathilde Bonjean, a musician at the Maurice André conservatory in Alès Agglomération, has been going to the school once a week to work with the teachers with the aim of setting up a choir with all the students.

This partnership work between the school and the conservatory allowed children from CP to CM2 to discover choral singing as well as the Clara d’Anduze music school where they went to rehearse. With the hope that this will make some people want to learn how to play an instrument.

The children’s enthusiasm and the good coordination established between the teachers and the worker should lead to further development of the partnership for another project next year.

Six selected songs

The songs were worked on with Mathilde Bonjeau and taken up by the teachers on the theme of travel. Six songs were selected for this first performance in front of the families and with all their hearts the children took the audience to Brazil with a joyful batucada, then to Africa. On a reggae rhythm, they interpreted the song we are all the same before leaving for Brittany with Celtic music. Head full of dreams made it possible to continue the journey that ended with Around the world in 80 daysa lively tune to which the parents joined by clapping their hands.

The children were delighted with this great initiative and also very proud to perform in front of an audience and there is no doubt that this first restitution will be followed by many others.
