The new Corona virus (Covid-19) can survive on the types of clothes in relation to the fabric of the fabrics from which they are made for a period of up to three days, according to a new scientific study conducted by the University of De Montfoot in the British Leicester, which examined the behavior of the virus in dealing with 3 types of textile fabrics commonly used in healthcare.
The study, published by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, on Wednesday, revealed that “the polyester fabric enables the virus to survive at infectious levels for up to 72 hours, but it dies within 24 hours on fabrics made of 100% cotton.”
The study also found that “corona viruses can live on the hybrid cotton fabric for only six hours, as a spray was added to polyester fabric, multi-tissue cotton, and pure cotton, to find out how long the virus stuck in these tissues.”
And the study found alarming results – according to the researchers – “that if the virus is alive on the clothes of health care workers, it may be carried from the hospital and transferred to the home of these workers and then move to various surfaces, which allows it to spread.”
Dr Katie Laird, a professor of microbiology, advised the British government to wash all clothes and uniforms of healthcare workers inside hospitals.
Laird, who is the head of the Infectious Diseases Research Group, said that “very little prognosis was known regarding how long the Corona virus would remain on cloth tissue, as we did not fully understand it when the pandemic began to spread,” noting that “our results indicate that There are three among the most used cloths used in health care, which pose risks that will transmit the virus between people, warning that if nurses take their clothes home with them, they may leave traces of the virus on other surfaces in the home.
