From 5 p.m. there is a threat of power bottlenecks in Baden-Württemberg

Electricity customers in Baden-Württemberg are being asked to save again: today at 5-7 p.m. there is a risk of another power shortage. Customers are also informed by the Federal Network Agency: If they don’t save today, there is a risk of a hefty electricity price increase in the future.

It’s a message that you’re hearing more and more now: power grid operators begging their customers to save. In Baden-Württemberg, TransnetBW is now warning of a power shortage between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Customers should try to use as little energy as possible. There is talk of a “tense situation” in the power grid.

Such warnings were already issued in December. Well again. Paradoxically, the situation is particularly precarious because a particularly large amount of wind energy is produced in the north, according to TransnetBW. But they also explain there that there is no danger of a blackout. Because there is a lack of transmission capacity to the south, electricity is now needed there to maintain grid stability. It’s like a traffic jam on the freeway.

In order to ensure the electricity supply in Baden-Württemberg, people are now being asked to save electricity and would otherwise be forced to buy expensive electricity from Switzerland, according to TransnetBW. In plain language, it sounds as if customers should now drastically reduce their electricity consumption in order to avoid electricity price increases. Federal Network Agency boss Klaus Müller writes exactly that on Twitter, where he says: “The fewer compensation measures (redispatch) that have to be purchased, the less the network charges will increase. Please take the chance.”
