In January, Expressen was able to tell that Filip Cederqvist, after two seasons in North America, chooses to move back home to Sweden.

Cederqvist, who originally comes from Skara, has signed for three years with the Gothenburgers.

– When I was little, I attended Frölunda. Kallio (Tomi) was my favorite and I still have a number 71 shirt at home. It is a good time to come to Frölunda right now, he says to the club’s website.

Already finished last winter

Despite his young age, Filip Cederqvist has quite a lot of experience in SHL games. He came up in Växjö’s organization, but never took a real place. It was Tingsryd, where the breakthrough came. A short loan to HV71 was also in that vein, before he had his big SHL breakthrough in Djurgården. The 23-year-old also got to represent Tre kronor.

When Djurgården left, Cederqvist was ready to play in Leksand, but never got to represent the club. Instead, he signed an NHL contract, but in Buffalo’s organization there was never an NHL game and last winter he was ready for Frölunda, who can now present his signing.

– Filip is a player from the region who has good size and is a good skater. We like the character and he has the tools to be a power forward. He has shown that before, comments Fredrik Sjöström.
