Frogwares Becomes Sole Publisher of The Sinking City: Big News Clears Up Dispute

Lovecraft’s detective story The Sinking City offered an interesting case in its story, but something even more interesting needed to be solved around the game itself. The game from the Ukrainian studio Frogwares, which is also behind the game Sherlock Holmes, was released in 2019 thanks to the French publisher Nacon. However, a year later, the two companies had disagreements and a protracted dispute and a series of different events began, including repeated withdrawals and returns of the game, mutual accusations, lawsuits, the release of a “pirated version”, bullying or the release of a native version for new consoles , but without the possibility of upgrading. That should be over, however, as Frogwares announced today that they have become the sole cross-platform publisher of the game.

The big news was announced by Frogwares on social media and on Steam, and indeed it seems that everything has been cleared up. “We’re happy to finally have this thing behind us and look forward to sharing more news regarding the future of the series with you soon,” the statement read. With their full take on the game, Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Gamesplanet will all have the final version of the game available in a few weeks, hitting back at that incomplete “pirated version” from Nacon. All fixes will be included, but there may be some restrictions for players. For technical reasons, it will not be possible to use older saved positions that will not be compatible with the new version. On Steam, however, it will be possible to temporarily choose an older version when the game is launched, which can still be played, but the developers warn that players should do so by February 28, 2024. However, they themselves soon intend to release save positions that can be downloaded and used, which will also apply to other clients.

The Merciful Madness DLC, which was available on the Nintendo Switch and later on the Xbox Series, will also be released here. At the same time, it is not known at the moment whether other DLCs, which were not available to all players due to the dispute and various changes, will also be released, and whether anything will change regarding the console versions as well. If you are interested in this unpleasant past that has afflicted the game, you can head to our archive, where we have documented it step by step.
