Frode Pedersen had great success as a fencer in the Norwegian national team and worked, among other things, close to the big star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo between 2017 and 2023.
Last spring, his contract with the national team was not renewed, which he claims was an unfounded decision. Now he speaks out about a culture in the national team that he describes as stale.
– My wish is for the working environment to be improved for the employees. I want to focus on basic values, normal behavior and treating other people with respect. A lot happens behind the scenes that people unfortunately don’t see, he says.
He exemplifies an event during the WC in Planica earlier this year. Before the 15 kilometer race, Høsflot Klæbo’s favorite skis suddenly disappeared. Just two hours before the start of the race, the skis were then back – which was too tight for him to change. The Norwegian star then entered fourth and missed the podium.
– They (the skis) were completely destroyed and it looked like someone had walked with them across a gravel parking lot or something. I don’t know where they had gone, but not in a ski slope anyway. They were broken, he says.
After VG’s interview, the Norwegian Skiing Association has announced that they have opened an internal investigation.
