Six parties in the Provincial Council in Friesland are outraged about the permit that NAM has received for gas extraction under the Wadden Sea. Regional and local authorities have already spoken out against the plans. The Wadden association is furious.
The Labor Party, FNP, GroenLinks, SP, D66 and the Party for the Animals think it is unfair that gas can be drilled between Ternaard and Ameland, while it is clear that we must stop using fossil fuels because of climate change.
“Gas will be extracted under the Wadden Sea, which is the nursery for many breeding and migratory birds.” According to the parties, the birds are in trouble due to the consequences of gas extraction. Due to gas extraction, the soil subsides, so that fewer sandbanks become dry.
