Frisian cities want ministerial compensation for their blue language

Fifteen Frisian municipalities are calling on the Minister of Agriculture Femke Wiersma in a letter to provide financial support to farmers who are dealing with the consequences of the clean language.

The municipalities write that they understand that the minister has so far ‘accepted that the consequences of the disease are part of the business risk’, but they think that compensation is not possible for the sector after everything.

In addition to compensation for affected entrepreneurs, the municipalities want Wiersma to take more action to prevent the blue language. Because, according to the cities, the end of the disease is still far from sight. The fifteen towns in Frisian would like to see the minister encouraging the development and research of effective medicines ‘to stop this terrible animal disease’.

The campaign for the letter comes from the city of North-East Friesland and is also supported by Achtkarspelen, Ameland, Dantumadiel, De Fryske Marren, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden, Ooststellingwerf, Opsterland, Schiermonnikoog, Smallingerland, Südwest Friesland, Tytsjerkcoesteriel and West.
