Frigiliana’s Festival of Sacred Music and Ancient Music ‘The March Hare’ will also visit Almáchar and Cómpeta

MÁLAGA, Jun 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Festival of Sacred Music and Ancient Music ‘La Hare de Marzo’, which has been held in Frigiliana (Málaga) since 2014, has grown into its seventh edition and leaves its municipality of origin for the first time to also visit Almáchar and Cómpeta. It will do so hand in hand with the Provincial Council with a program of six free concerts from June 19 to July 10.

This was indicated this Wednesday by the provincial deputy for Culture, Víctor González, at the MVA Cultural Center together with Antonio Yuste, mayor of Almáchar; Carmen Cerezo, councilor for Tourism and Culture of Frigiliana, and María López, councilor for Culture of Culture of Competa, as well as Elia Camino, president of the association ‘Open Window. Art, Culture, People ‘, organized by the festival with the support of the Provincial Council, the La Caixa Foundation and the Malaga Foundation, represented at the press conference by its president, Juan Cobalea.

The deputy recalled that the Festival of Sacred Music and Early Music ‘The March Hare’ was born with the aim of disseminating European classical music composed before 1750 (late Baroque), offering, at the same time, a quality cultural alternative in a small municipality such as Frigiliana.

Since its first edition, the festival has brought to the Malaga Axarquía a total of eight choirs and four orchestral groups representing different musical styles linked to ancient music or religious music, from the most contemporary to the most distant, and with a strong presence of musicians of the province.

This festival has already had in its program the Vocal Sinergia Group and the Trio Voces del Mediterráneo (2014); Ars le Calamb and Duo Fermata (2015); Vocal Group Sinergia y Faluka Música Serfardí (2016); Carmen Ariza. Concert and Resonare Fibris Consort (2017); Cármina Nova Young Choir and Cuarteto Con Fuoco (2018); and Resonare Fibris and Trío Polimnia (2019).

Although it could not be held in 2020, ‘The March Hare’ is a festival already consolidated in the region and in the province, so this 2021 it has opted to make it grow and take it to two other municipalities: Almáchar and Cómpeta.

As is traditional, the festival’s program is made up of a vocal and an instrumental section, and the repertoire includes ancient music and religious music. Thus, the program includes one of the most important composers of classical music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Malaga Baroque Orchestra will perform, with the instruments of the time, one of the great quartets of this composer.

For its part, the Chamber Choir of the University of Malaga will make a journey through the Renaissance until reaching the compositions of one of the most prolific creators of music, poetry and theater of the late 15th and early 16th centuries: Juan del Encina.

The Baroque Orchestra will offer concerts on June 19 in the San Antonio de Padua parish in Frigiliana; on the 20th at the San Mateo Apóstol parish in Almáchar and on July 10 at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción church in Cómpeta.
