Frieze New York: the art market folds its claims and posts its prices

Until May 15, the Frieze New York virtual fair is accessible to everyone from their computer and by no other means, the global coronavirus crisis requires. The little sister of Frieze London which offers the works of 200 exhibitors including 132 American galleries and 82 European galleries is usually located in a tent in Randall’s Island Park, on the outskirts of Manhattan. In recent years, however, the event has shown signs of weakness, perhaps because of its offer almost exclusively aimed at young or fashionable artists, but also because of its location, because the site is far from the epicenter of the megalopolis.

But the “Frieze New York viewing room” formula, which has just been launched, circumvents these problems. Because it presents a lot of pieces at relatively low prices. But also, because the location and the heat, which is usually rampant at this time of year in the tent, are no longer an issue.
