FrieslandCampina and Rabobank participate in farmers’ nitrogen trial | Financial

The idea behind the collaboration is to make it easier for farmers to invest in such a Lely Sphere. FrieslandCampina will pay the companies a fee, Lely will then give a discount on the purchase of the system and Rabobank has put together a favorable loan conditions package. The parties hope that the trial will also encourage the government to give more incentives to initiatives to make agriculture more sustainable.

In the Netherlands, fierce farmers’ protests have been taking place for weeks because farmers do not agree with the government’s nitrogen policy. “Together with FrieslandCampina and Rabobank, we want to contribute to alternatives to the current cabinet plans regarding the national nitrogen problem,” said Lely CEO André van Troost in a statement. “Instead of reducing the livestock and compensating dairy farmers for this, we believe in investing in research and technical innovations to stimulate circular livestock farming and make agriculture more sustainable.”

Farmers who want to participate in the trial can register for it. The intention is that the first Lely Spheres will be installed after the summer. Next year, the cooperation partners will discuss the results of the trial. They hope that this technical solution can eventually be applied more widely in the sector.
