“Friends” star Matthew Perry’s doctor pleads guilty

Chavez now faces up to ten years in prison; a professional ban had already been imposed on him. The 54-year-old is the third of five defendants in the case. Two defendants, another doctor and Jasveen Sangha, known in Hollywood circles as the “Ketamine Queen,” deny the allegations.

Ketamine is used by doctors as an anesthetic and also to treat depression. Because of its hallucinogenic effects, it is also traded on the black market for drug users.

The US Attorney’s Office accuses the five defendants of exploiting Perry’s addiction problems to “enrich themselves.” Perry was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home at the end of October last year. According to the coroner’s report, he died from the “acute effects of ketamine.”

In the 1990s, Perry became famous for his role as sarcastic joker Chandler Bing in the globally popular television series “Friends”. In his autobiography published last year, Perry reported struggling with drug and alcohol addiction for years.
