The actor Matthew Perry, the famous Chandler from the popular series Friends, died from “acute effects of ketamine.” This was stated by the medical examiner of the Los Angeles Department. The autopsy results were previewed by Fox News.
Perry, 54, was found drowned in a hot tub in his Pacific Palisades mansion, his assistant pulled his head out of the water trying to save him but it was too late. According to the doctor, however, the drowning was a secondary effect: the real cause of death was ketamine and it was an accident.
The report said heart disease and buprenorphine, used to treat opioid use disorder, also contributed. Investigators performed an autopsy the day after his death. Initially it was thought to be a methamphetamine overdose. On the day of his death Perry had been playing pickleball: the assistant reported that he had no health problems and had not recently used alcohol or drugs.
Perry had admitted in the past to taking alcohol – as a boy – and then taking drugs. Ketamine is a psychoactive substance from the analgesic family. The effects depend on the quantity taken and individual sensitivity.
