Yesterday, 800 were the guests who said goodbye to Peter R. de Vries in the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. The Dutch crime reporter was shot at close range five times on Tuesday evening, July 6, as he walked to his car after a broadcast of ‘RTL Boulevard’. He died of his injuries last Thursday. After thousands of Dutch people had already paid their last greetings to De Vries on Wednesday, his funeral took place yesterday for family, friends and colleagues. They saw the coffin being carried in the morning to the sounds of Eddie Vedder’s ‘Guaranteed’. ‘On bended knee is no way to be free’, he sings in the first sentence of the song: the motto of Peter R. de Vries, which he also had tattooed on his leg.
