Acrumb of “everyone in the neighborhood, good guys and bad guys”; Charismatic just turned 18, independent despite her young age, and wanting to be a police officer or study criminology.
Thus, according to her mother’s words, it was Shersi Andrea Franco Zambrano, the young woman who was killed Tuesday morning in an attack by hitmen on a motorcycle in the La Poza sector, in the San Francisco neighborhood.
Heidis, her mother, remembers her as someone who was always cheerful since she was a child, who even hung out with the “fighters” in Boston, where she always lived, because because of her way of being, no one messed with her.
“They always looked for her for fun, that’s how she was, very happy,” says Heidis, who assures that the seizures that her daughter suffered often due to a problem detected in her brain were not an impediment to being happy and fun with all those that surrounded her.
Shersi graduated from high school last year and wanted to study at a higher education center, but the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for her since the end of last year to gather several documents, including obtaining the citizenship card.
“Last year he could not get her out, they always told him that there was no attention or he could not make the appointment. Last Friday (February 19) she promised me that she would go to the Registrar’s Office, and she did, but they did not attend to her. He said he was going on Monday (22), but he woke up ‘gowned’ and told me later that he would get the card another day, ”says Heidis.

At the age of 14, Shersi, according to her mother, belonged to the Real Cartagena bar. She remembers it as a very hard time, because her daughter was on the streets for a long time. It took a long time to convince her to move away from that environment, but in the end she succeeded. However, for Heidis another major problem came with the second of her three children.
A year and a half ago the young woman got engaged to a neighbor in the neighborhood. That couple from Shersi turned out to be Gustavo Adolfo Corcho Meléndez, a young man who had been involved in some problems with people from other neighborhoods such as El Líbano and Olaya.
Shersi and Gustavo went to live in the Bayunca district and later moved to Heidis’s apartment, right there on Carrera 47 in Boston, near where she lives. Shersi’s mother says that her husband bought everything for her and they lived there until last January, when she decided to end the relationship due to the continuous problems of coexistence and his alleged infidelities.
The young woman was left living alone in that apartment and from time to time she received a visit from Gustavo Adolfo. On Monday morning, the young man went to Shersi’s apartment to invite her to the birthday of a friend in San Francisco who was also known to her.
“All day he spent asking everyone if they were going to the party or not. She wanted to go more than anything to see if it was true that her husband had another wife or not, but she was hesitant to go. I told him not to go, not to do it, that he better rest and look for his ID on Tuesday, ”says Heidis.
Shersi paid no attention. At about 7 p.m. that Monday, he left his apartment for the party in San Francisco. He was there all the time with Gustavo, until at 2 in the morning two men on a motorcycle appeared in that corner of the La Poza sector.
Shersi was still standing, but her partner fell asleep, her head on his shoulders. When she saw the guys, whom she apparently knew, she pushed Gustavo and told him to run. He did, but she missed it and one of those projectiles that was going at her husband hit him in the back of the head. His death was almost on the spot.
Corcho Meléndez was unharmed and another man who was chatting at that party was injured. This is Luis Javier Lozano Pérez, 32, who received a bullet in the right arm.
Heidis buried her daughter on Wednesday afternoon at the Jardines de Paz Cemetery, on the road to Turbaco. In his words there is no anger, but a lot of pain. He says that he saw Gustavo again because he went to his house to ask him for some things from the apartment.
She doesn’t want to talk about him anymore, she prefers to look at the portrait of her daughter when she received her bachelor’s degree. This is how he wants to remember her.

The two subjects who allegedly participated in the bullet attack were captured in a quick reaction from the Police. One of the suspects detained is alias ‘Cocho’, who, according to the Command of the Metropolitan Police, has a wide criminal record for conspiracy crimes; carrying, trafficking and manufacturing of firearms; and qualified and aggravated theft. The driver of the motorcycle seized a Glock pistol, caliber 9 millimeters.
The Cartagena Police confirmed that both subjects were sent to jail after being sheltered with a security measure by a Guarantee Control judge.
Of Gustavo Adolfo Corcho, the Police said that “he has a record of qualified and aggravated theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Of the injured, Luis Lozano Pérez, also confirmed that he has notes for theft and personal injuries. The investigations indicate that the attack was against Corcho Meléndez “for a distribution of money as a result of illegal acts.”
