A Hispanic who rushed to his death after fall onto the rails of a train from a station platform in Manhattan told a friend that he didn’t think he’d make it to 25.
Maximiliano Cronteras, 24, was supposed to have his birthday on July 20.
But, as if it were a prediction, the young man seemed to anticipate his death.
“He was very funny. just a beautiful human being who had this hilariously acid tongue that was rarely cruel,” described one of his friends, Angus Baigrie.
“He was always very clear that he would die young. He said he wouldn’t make it to 25… prophetic,” Baigrie added to the New York Daily News.
“He didn’t think much about the future, he just enjoyed the days he had,” he described.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that Contreras lost his balance and fell onto the rails where a J train passed at the Delancey St.-Essex St. station on the Lower East Side. However, the young man died from the impact on the head, not crushed by the train.
The tragedy was reported on Sunday at about 1:45 am Allegedly, Contreras was drunk at the time of the incident.
Contreras, who lived in Ridgewood, Queens, was born in Mexico, and moved to New York through Florida. He worked as a bartender and as a social worker.
“Max was wonderful, unique, a colorful person,” said another friend, identified as Alex Barbayianis.
“He has a legacy here and even though it may be small, it impacted more people than he knows,” Barbayianis said.
