Frida Karlsson’s Struggles with Return to Cross-Country Skiing After Covid

The 24-year-old Swedish cross-country skier, affected by covid at the beginning of December, was forced to miss her Gaellivare stage. Frida Karlsson returned to Östersund a week later, but without interesting results.

She finally hoped for the best this week in Trondheim but this time again, Karlsson did not have good feelings. Ranked 8th in the sprint, not bad, the Swede will pay the bill for the skiathlon.

From the classic style part, Frida Karlsson did not keep the pace and finished only 14th before withdrawing from the classic 10km on Sunday.

The worried staff

It’s frustrating for her, but Frida was sick with Covid and we have to take that into account. It often takes time to return. It is therefore better to take a break and then head towards the Tour de Ski.

Clearly we are concerned because this is not working properly. Frida won the Tour in 2023 but we have to evaluate it day by day and see how we feel. In any case, we remain hopeful.” explains Anders Byström, manager of the national team.

Frida Karlsson, who returned home without feeling in high spirits, also said she was worried.

“This is not really the state I recognize myself in. I have to be patient and develop a plan for the future. Today I cannot say if I will be at the start of the Tour de Ski.”declared the Swede on Aftonbladet.
