Freyming-Merlebach: The Aquagliss swimming pool will be closed from January to April to save energy

The Freyming-Merlebach Aquagliss complex will close early next year to conserve energy. The pool is a victim of rising gas and electricity prices. To avoid having to pay a heavy bill, the city council voted on Thursday evening to close the 1 premisesis From January to April 2, 2023.

We consulted the calls for tenders again then our suppliers and we had a price that was multiplied by 2.5 and 8. Which makes an additional cost in terms of figures of more than 800,000€, between 850,000 and one million euros was valued. So this is a very large bill here.

The pool is very energy consuming. It is 100% gas heated and uses a lot of electricity to treat the water and air. For 3 months, therefore, the regulars will no longer be able to swim. On the other hand, there will be no restrictions until the end of the year.

We had a technical shutdown scheduled for December. We have always done an annual emptying for 3 weeks and then this emptying will be postponed to January and then the pools will be open throughout the month of December so that the public can come and swim during the holidays.

At the Sarreguemines nautical center there is currently no renegotiation of energy tariffs so the community of the agglomeration is not affected by the price increase.

To participate in the national effort, the room temperature and that of the swimming pools have been slightly lowered. For example, the sports pool went from 27.5 to 27°.
