Fresh Air for Bayern Munich as Manuel Neuer Returns to Training

Munich

Bayern Munich get some fresh air. Top goalkeeper Manuel Neuer training for the first time since breaking his leg last December.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper spent most of the 2022/23 season in the treatment room. Neuer suffered an accident while skiing after Germany were eliminated in the group phase of the 2022 World Cup.

Bayern finally brought in Yann Sommer – who has now joined Inter Milan – to replace Neuer. The reason is, Neuer had to be absent for a long time because he needed surgery.

After eight months, Manuel Neuer, finally grazed again. The 2014 World Cup winner had his first practice without interruption, which is a positive sign towards a comeback.

“Manuel Neuer is back with the FC Bayern goalkeeping team on the pitch,” a club statement read Stats Perform.

“Monday’s training session for the players who did not start against FC Augsburg in Sunday’s match, the 37-year-old captain completed a session with his goalkeeping colleagues for the first time since breaking his right lower leg.”

“Neuer has been out of action since picking up an injury in December 2022, but now he has taken the next step towards a comeback.”

Manuel Neuer last played for Bayern Munich in a 2-0 victory over host Schalke in November 2022. Neuer will still have several training sessions ahead before he can actually return to defend Die Roten on the gridiron.
