‘FRESCA!’ Is born, a new theater, dance and circus festival in Alicante

The Valencian Institute of Culture has presented the festival ‘FRESH!’, created by the Generalitat in Alicante to “provide and enrich the city with summer cultural programming.” It will be held from August 17 to 25 at Muelle 12, in the port of Alicante.

‘COOL!’ It starts on August 17 with a Valencian stamp. The company Strawberry will kick off the acclaimed dance performance “Muler”, 2017 MAX Award for the best street show and awarded with four awards from the Valencian Performing Arts Awards in 2018. On Wednesday, August 18, the festival opens its family space ‘FRESH!’. It will be in the hands of the company La Tal, which presents its show “Priced”.

In addition, the Veronal dance company presents “Sonoma”, an avant-garde and contemporary show that, taking the figure of Buñuel as a reference, brings together a cast made up of nine women on stage. Its director, Marcos Morau, is the 2013 National Dance Award.

+ Complete programming

One of the freshest genres cannot be missing from the program: flamenco, which arrives at the contest on August 21 with one of the most relevant and exciting shows of the season: “Viva!” from Manuel Liñán, National Dance Award 2017. This show was also awarded the MAX Audience Award 2020.

One of the international bets of the festival will arrive on Sunday, August 22. The British circus company Gandini Juggling, considered one of the world’s leading juggling companies, will represent “Smashed”, a show with 80 apples, 9 jugglers and 4 tea sets inspired by Pina Baush’s ‘tanztheatre’. It was premiered at the Watch this Space festival at the National Theater in London in 2010 and has received, among others, the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

The contest closes its first edition on Wednesday, August 25 with a great circus production by the prestigious Manuel Alcántara company and his show “Already seen”.
