  • Can I donate immediately after surgery or endoscopy?
  • It all depends on the type of operation you have had. If you have been hospitalized for more than 24 hours then you must wait 4 months before you can donate blood.

  • Can I give after a vaccine?
  • After a live attenuated vaccine (yellow fever, chickenpox, rubella, measles, mumps, tuberculosis, rotavirus), you have to wait 4 weeks to donate blood. For all other types of vaccine, including the flu vaccine, donation is possible now!

  • Can I donate if I have diabetes?

  • Can I donate if I have had cancer?

  • Can I donate if I have already been transfused?
  • If you have had a transfusion in your lifetime, then donating blood is not possible. However, you can help patients in other ways, by becoming a volunteer or by encouraging those around you to donate blood.

  • Can I donate if I have my period?
  • And yes, blood donation is possible even during menstruation! If your flow is heavy, it is important to report it to the EFS collection doctor, who will perform a hemoglobin check before donation.

  • Can I donate if I have an allergy?
  • If you have symptoms on the day of the donation, then you should wait a bit before going to the collection. If you have taken corticosteroids in the last 2 weeks, or if you had an injection for desensitization in the previous 3 days, you will need a little more patience too!

  • Can I donate if I am taking a birth control pill?
  • Taking a contraceptive pill is not a contraindication, you can donate blood 🙂

  • Can I donate if I have Crohn’s disease?
