Frequent Thirst, Symptoms of Diabetics Not Enough to Drink 1 Glass of Water

JawaPos.com – A person is often unaware that he has diabetes. Uncontrolled blood sugar can give an alarm for the body. One of the most typical symptoms of diabetes is frequent thirst, hunger, and the need to urinate.

Medically, the symptom of extreme thirst is known as polydipsia. The UK Diabetes charity adds that the symptoms are usually accompanied by dry mouth.

This type of thirst is not sufficiently overcome by drinking a glass of water. In fact, no matter how much you drink, still feel thirsty.

Abnormal thirst is one of the three big signs of type 2 diabetes. And the others are polyuria and polyphagia.

Polyuria is an increased need to urinate. Tends to pair up with abnormal thirst.

Why this happened?

Reporting from Express.co.uk, Tuesday (15/9), when the amount of sugar in the blood becomes too high, the kidneys work extra hard to get rid of excess sugar through the urine. This causes a person to urinate more frequently than usual (exceeding five liters per day).

Keep in mind that a bladder which is considered a urine storage tank can comfortably hold 500ml. The UK National Health Center’s NHS bladder must be emptied three to four hours a day.

People are advised to drink up to two liters per day. This means that four times a day of urination is considered normal.

Those with diabetes are unable to effectively transport sugar from the blood into the cells. Sugar (i.e. glucose) is a source of energy for body cells. But in diabetes, cells can’t absorb sugar.

Then the patient will recognize the symptoms of Polyphagia. When sugar continues to build up in the bloodstream, polyphagia can occur. Polyphagia is a feeling of intense hunger, because the body craves a source of energy.

Eating alone will not satisfy the feeling of polyphagia, as it will only increase blood sugar levels. Sugar comes from the food you eat, so eating it will worsen symptoms.

If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately to test your blood sugar levels. Other symptoms of this condition include fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision and sores that are slow to heal.

Feelings of dizziness can occur when the body is dehydrated and the brain has trouble functioning properly. Diabetes can also cause swelling of the lens inside the eye and affect vision. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the early symptoms from an early age.
