Frenzied scenes: residents of Shanghai are allowed to leave their room again | Coronavirus

Shops will be allowed to reopen and residents of “low-risk” areas will be allowed to return to work, local authorities said. Public transport will be started up and the number of domestic flights to the city will be expanded. In public areas, a maximum capacity of 75 percent still applies, and residents must also show a negative PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old.

The city, with more than 26 million inhabitants, has been in a strict lockdown since April 1 to fight the corona virus. People were not allowed to leave their homes, leading to food shortages for many Shanghai residents. After a few weeks, the rules were relaxed. Since then, the strictest rules only applied to neighborhoods where infections had recently been detected.
