French writer Jean-Claude Carrière (89) passed away | NOW

French writer and actor Jean-Claude Carrière died on Monday at the age of 89. His death was announced by his family, French media report.

The French wrote the screenplays for many famous films, such as The Tin Drum (1979) in The unbearable lightness of being (1988). Besides screenwriter and actor, he also worked as a director. He also wrote screenplays for the theater.

In 1957 he released his first novel Lizard he also wrote horror books under his pseudonym Benoît Becker.

During his career, he often collaborated with famous filmmakers such as Luis Buñuel, Jacques Tati and Pierre Étaix. With the latter he won an Oscar for the film in 1963 Happy Birthday.

Carrière last released a novel in 2012: Disorder. Film by the Sea presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to the Frenchman in 2010 for his contribution to cinema.

Career was not sick, but died in his sleep according to his family.
