French U19 Women’s Basketball Team Loses in World Cup Semi-Finals

French team – The French U19 women’s team lost (57-80) in the semi-finals of the World Cup against the United States and saw their dream of a gold medal vanish. They will have to remobilize this Sunday during the small final to try to win bronze.

After breaking the invincibility of Japan this Friday in the quarter-finals, the French women’s U19 team stumbled against the United States (57-80) in the semi-finals of the World Cup. Carried by its exceptional leader the day before, the 2004 generation failed to sparkle to reach the final. If Anaëlle Dutat was prolific in rebounding (13 in total), Fatoumata Touré finished top scorer (16 points) while Leila Lacan (13 points and 5 rebounds) did not weigh as much as hoped on the meeting.

However, the entry into matters of the tricolors was rather good since they led at the end of the first half (18-13, 8 ‘) but it did not last long since the Americans equalized when switching to the second quarter (20-20, 10’). It was before the break that the Bleuettes cracked. Driven back by a US formation, the French were never able to respond. Grace Van Slooten (13 points at 4/7 at 3-points, 4 rebounds) made the music and allowed her team to take off at the break (30-48, 20 ‘). Despite everything, the Bleuettes tried to come back in the second half but the Americans were already too far and were heading straight for the final.

From now on, the Bleuettes must remobilize to try to snatch a bronze medal this Sunday against the winner of the second semi-final between Spain and Canada, which is played this Saturday evening at 9:00 p.m.
